Position Details
Nurses in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) care for patients who have just undergone many types of cardiac and vascular surgery, including coronary artery bypass grafts, valve replacements and repairs, and complex aortic procedures. Patients require intensive pressure monitoring, hemodynamic management, and ventilatory support. A fast-paced environment utilizing a multidisciplinary team approach manages the entire spectrum of patient and family needs. Our growing cardiovascular surgical service requires candidates who not only are adept at learning highly technical skills, but also are capable of the critical thinking, compassion, and collaboration necessary to achieve optimal outcomes for this complicated and fascinating patient population.
Job Description
Utilizes the nursing process as the frame of reference for
practice as a professional registered nurse and provides direct nursing care to patients and families.
Serves with authority and accountability to make patient care management decisions relative to the nursing plan.
Collaborates with other members of the patient care team to plan and coordinate patient care goals and achieve optimal patient outcomes.
Recognizes patient care needs on the continuum and works to establish a comprehensive plan of care.
Demonstrates competency in providing compassionate, quality, cultural sensitive patient care consistent with the Medical Center’s mission and core values.
Responsible for maintaining patient confidentiality and privacy, ensuring compliance with HIPAA and Medical Center standards, policies and procedures.
Qualifications
Associate’s Degree, Bachelor’s Degree, or a diploma in Nursing from a professionally accredited Nursing Program that has been legally approved by the designated state’s accrediting agency at the time the degree or diploma was attained is required. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
Must have valid, active RN License and possess a current MA Registered Nurse License prior to start date.
Minimum of one year working experience as a Registered Nurse is required.
Experience in a teaching hospital and a minimum of one year’s experience in the specialty area where the opening exists is preferred.
Must be BLS certified within 90 days of start.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to endure extended periods of time standing and walking as work requires frequent travel to various locations throughout inpatient units and the Medical Center, up to 75% of time during shift.
Ability to routinely and regularly lift and carry items weighing up to 35 pounds without assistance.
Ability to pull up and/or reposition patients weighing up to 100 pounds who are lying in their bed without assistance.
Ability to pull up and/or reposition patients weighing up to 450 pounds with assistance.
Ability to safely push a wheelchair or wheeled bed containing a patient weighing up to 250 pounds without assistance.
