Legal Nurse Consultant
Location: New Orleans, Louisiana
Position: Legal Nurse

Legal Nurse Consultant – RN (or LPN) plus paralegal experience required. Those with only one or the other will not be considered, must have combination of both nurse and paralegal experience for this position. Initial hiring salary $45-50K DOE plus excellent benefits package. MUST currently live in southern Louisiana area or have pre-planned date of relocation to Greater New Orleans area occuring within next few weeks to be considered for this position.

Expectations:

1. Must meet Firm Expectation to record at least 1808 hours per year, whether in case specific billable hours, planned client development or other firm required tasks;

2. Must maintain responsibility for firm tasks as defined in Legal Nurse Consultant Job Description; and,

3. Must actively participate in all firm gatherings and meetings, and support legal team as necessary.

Capabilities:

1. Must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written;

2. Must work well with a team consisting of attorneys, paralegals, nurses and the administrative staff;

3. Must have the ability to balance a number of tasks in an efficient fashion using good time management principals;

4. Must develop knowledge and understanding of legal concepts, medical terminology, procedures and the rules of various courts and other official agencies;

5. Must develop familiarity with legal documents, including ability to enhance with medical analyses; and

6. Must be proficient with computers and related software, including knowledge and experience in using Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook software.

Duties and Responsibilities:

A. General Work Requirements

1. Organize and prioritize assignments;

2. Calendar and comply with deadlines;

3. Work independently; delegate/supervise as appropriate;

4. Ability to work effectively under pressure; and

5. Must enter time logged in performing case specific billable hours, planned client development or other firm required tasks into the firm’s computerized billing system database on a daily basis.

B. Legal-specific requirements:

1. Identify relevant medical records, hospital policies and procedures, and other essential documents to be reviewed;

2. Review, summarize and analyze medical records (per Medical Records Review Guidelines process);

3. Identify the applicable standards of medical care;

4. Identify case specific deviations and adherences to those standards;

5. Identify factors that caused or contributed to the alleged damages/injuries;

6. Research medical literature related to case medical issues;

7. Research and analyze validity and reliability of research studies
relied upon by all parties;

8. Prepare global analysis of medical aspect of case;

9. Identify necessary medical witnesses;

10. Prepare questions for meetings with medical witnesses;

11. Attend interviews/meetings with medical witnesses;

12. Prepare summary of meetings with medical witnesses;

13. Review, summarize and incorporate medical witnesses’ depositions into global analysis;

14. Review/contribute to client evaluation reports, to ensure accuracy of medical facts/analysis;

15. Draft interrogatories relevant to medical case issues;

16. Investigate/recommend expert witnesses;

17. Confirm engagement of expert witnesses & maintain rappore with their assistants;

18. Prepare draft position papers for Medical Review Panels;

19. Review and update witness lists from medical witness standpoint;

20. Assist with/comment on to help support/refute medical witness testimony during trial;

21. Recommendations for development of medical library, as would assist with your medical case analyses.
