Major Duties:

Organizational Location of Position:  Ambulatory Care (Women’s Health Program).  The Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) works as
a member of the Women’s Health Program.  He/she is accountable the Associate Chief of Staff for Ambulatory Care.  The CRNP provides both primary care and gender specific care to women veterans. Demonstrates advanced competencies and skills in assessing the physical and psychosocial status of
veterans , families, and groups.  Participates on the interdisciplinary health care team.   Manages chronic and acute illnesses in collaboration with the physician.  The CRNP serves as consultant in clinical practice. Provides leadership in initiating and implementing existing and new programs to meet the need of veterans.  This position potentially requires flexibility in schedule and assignments, as this is a 24/7 hospital.  The CRNP must be poised and articulate in communicating with people of varied educational levels and varied ethic backgrounds.   The incumbentDefinition must be willing to work cooperatively as a member of a team in all assignments.  CRNP makes caring for the women veterans his/her priority while in the work setting and demonstrates customer service principles in all aspects of work.  The population female veterans
served ranges from the adult, age 18, to the elderly adult, age 65 and over.

Qualifications:

(1)Citizenship.  Citizen of the United States.  (Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens).

(2)Graduation from School of Nursing.  Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State agency, and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant:

• The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC);
• The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

(3)Registration:  The nurse practitioner must be licensed or otherwise recognized as a nurse practitioner in a State, possess a master’s degree from a program accredited by the NLNAC or CCNE, and maintain full and current certification as a nurse practitioner from the American Nurses Association or another nationally recognized certifying body.  VA approved Certification required – RNC; Certifying Body: National Certificate Corporation. The CRNP must be in the specialty to which the individual is being appointed or selected ].  The nurse practitioner must maintain a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration to continue employment with VA.

(4)Physical Standards.  See VA Directive and Handbook 5019.

(5)English Language Proficiency.  Nurse Practitioners appointed to direct patient care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).

Additional Requirements:  Basic Life Support (BLS) required for RNs in direct patient care positions.  Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required in specific specialty areas.
